RTX - RAID information

Introducing RTX.
Up to 16TB in Advanced Hardware RAIDs.

Form and Function

State of the art
RAID controller

RTX RAIDs offer functionality you simply will not find on competing products without spending much more money.

The solid and durable aluminum cases offer strong, yet portable data solutions for nearly any use.

The RTX provides robust performance you would expect from industry leading hardware RAID sub-systems as well as being easy to use, thanks to the TrayFree™ design allowing the fast swapping of bare hard drives.

RAID Operations and Features Overview:
  • RAID Levels: 0,1,3,5,6,0+1,10,30,50,60 and JBOD
  • OS independent
  • Multiple and concurrent RAID volume support
  • Flexible UDV configuration to aggregate multiple File System schemes
  • Larger than 2TB Logical Volume support
  • 512MB of DDR3 RAM
  • Write-through and Write-back cache configuration for flexible application usage.
  • RAID priority configuration.
  • Instant RAID volume availability when using RAID Levels 0,1,0+1,5,6, or 10.
  • Read Only Logical Unit Number allows user to set the LUN as a read-only device
  • RTX-IR: Multipath I/O for double performance and host failover
  • Microsoft VSS and Apple Time Machine compatible
  • SATA I & II compatible
Advanced Data Protection

RTX RAIDs were designed with data integrity in mind. The ability to do an N-Way mirror, have hot spares, or use dual parity implementations (RAID 6) - along with many more features - ensure the highest level of data redundancy on the market today.

Features include:
  • RAID 6 ready, allows no-downtime operation even in the event of two disks failure at the same time
  • Global and dedicated hot spare disks with auto volume rebuilding
  • Local N-Way Mirror
  • Offline Array Roaming, stores volume configuration on every disk (this means volumes and drives can be moved from one RTX to another and disks can be inserted in any order)
  • Smart faulty sector reallocation with event notification
  • Hard drive S.M.A.R.T. enabled

Management Interface

Browser interface
for monitoring
and configuration
The integrated management software intelligently keeps you informed of critical system events by e-mail or SNMP. A web based user interface gives you access to the full range of RTX's RAID features. Alternatively, advanced users may wish to use the SSH Telnet protocols in conjunction with custom scripts in order to help them even more quickly deploy new mass storage.

  • HTTP and HTTPS (configure with a web browser)
  • SSH Telnet
  • Event notification with 'Phone-home' via e-mail or SNMP
  • Run-time I/O transactions recording
  • Supports future online system firmware upgrades
iSCSI RAID
Up to 100MB/s, host computer can be anywhere on the same network, providing for fast and distant access without needing a new host card.

UltraSCSI 320 RAID
Requires an UltraSCSI connection, but provides smokin' real world speeds of 250+ MB/s.

Scalability

Scalable storage is made easy by adding additional RTX units to your Storage Area Network.

Multiple servers can be connected concurrently with the RTX-IR's iSCSI connection; all that's required is an Ethernet cable. Up to 16TB (with RTX800-IR) of storage can be added at a time while maintaining high performance and data availability.

High end Uses
  • Digital Video
  • Disk to Disk Backup
  • Virtual Tape Library (VTL)
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Enterprise Backup Solutions
  • Clustering Services
  • Remote Backup Services
  • Hierarchical Volume Management
  • The TrayFree design makes this perfect for MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) implementaions. The idea is to keep archived data offline, yet readily available.
Consumer Uses
  • Adobe Photoshop scratch disks. The easy creation of multiple volume groups within the disks allows you to store your temporary files in a fast way, yet separate from your critical data.
  • Offsite Backups
  • Data Archiving
  • File Sharing
  • Scalable Storage Solutions
