Transportable, 10 Disk, Dual RAID Enclosure; Up to 7.5TB capacity
News: December 29 2008 -- Discontinued
RT5x2 has been discontinued. This page is left for the product information.
In the coming days watch for an incredible new RTX which directly replaces the RT5 - it's faster, costs less, and is just as portable. Watch this space, or RTX 400.
Huge volumes for massive transportable storage
RT5x2 gives you two independent RAIDs which can give huge volumes (3.75 TB times two equals a big 7.5TB) available over FireWire, USB or SATA. These large volumes are ideal for large acquisitions of any data - usually government forensic work, multimedia editors, server use, and with two built-in handles, it's portable, too!
Fast, front reloadable bays
RT5x2 comes with 10 reloadable, lockable drive trays, each holding a standard IDE drive. The latch design gives you instant access to your
drives from the front, making it easy to load, reload or replace hard disks at any time. Both independent RAIDs have 5 drives per RAID - times two, that's 10 drives total!
Grab it and go
RT5x2's rugged, built-in handles makes this unit truly portable, meaning multiple Terabytes can be hauled around with ease. Use RT5x2 to transport
backups offsite, carry extremely large projects easily or perform field backups.
RAID for when failure is not an option
The many RAID options available with RT5x2 give you the power to choose exactly how safe you want your data to be, and RAIDing with RT5x2 is
a piece of cake. The RAID options are on a scrolling menu, so it's easy to choose the RAID level you need. Configure as RAID 5, or even as a
RAID 5 with a hot spare. If you don't know what these terms mean, check out our RAID FAQ.
Available RAID options
RAID 0 - Stripe (one large volume)
RAID 1+0 - Mirror of stripes
RAID 1+0 + spare - Mirror of stripes with autobackup disk
RAID 3 - parity striping (less common than RAID 5)
RAID 3 + spare - parity striping with autobackup disk(s)
RAID 5 - parity striping
RAID 5 + spare - parity striping with autobackup disk(s)
(Remember - RT5x2 contains two independent RAIDs!)
Maximum connectivity
Dual FireWire 800 ports (400 compatible) single SATA port and a single USB port per RAID (4 FireWire, 2 SATA, 2 USB ports in total) give full connectivity to any host computer with FireWire or
USB. It's also plug and play under Windows 2K and XP, Mac OS X and Linux distributions supporting FireWire.
User interface
The password-protectable, button-driven menu is available right on the front of the RT5x2 making RAID configuration a snap. If a drive goes bad, built-in alarms will let you know.
Heavy duty
Made out of heavy-duty aluminum and steel construction, RT5x2 is designed for demanding field environments and continues WiebeTech's
tradition of offering tough, durable products.
