Far away is very quiet
RTX IR doesn't need to be in the same room with you, making it a perfect option for users with sound-critical work (such as sound engineers). All it needs is an IP address on your network.
There are many ways to set up a connection: Some may wish to use a 2nd ethernet network card to dedicate a connection - others will simply use existing network switches.

An advanced hardware RAID
Starting at just $1999.00, RTX IR gives advanced features normally not found at its price level. A state-of-the-art RAID controller, a strong and portable enclosure, TrayFree trayless bays, and RAID bake times 4 to 8 times faster than an Apple's Xserve.

RAID - For when failure is not an option
The many RAID options available with RTX IR give you the power to choose exactly how safe you want your data to be, and RAIDing with RTX is
a piece of cake. Configure RTX with a web browser (or one of several other ways). It's easy to choose the RAID level you need. Configure as RAID 5, or even as a RAID 5 with a hot spare. If you don't know what these terms mean, check out our RAID FAQ. More info about the advanced RAID controller in RTX IR.
Please don't call it NAS
NAS (Network Attached Storage) and iSCSI may appear similar at first glance, but they're certainly not the same.
Network Attached Storage devices available in the market today are very slow (3 MB/s is normal... 10 MB/s is considered fast by NAS standards).
RTX IR can operate in real world speeds of 100 MB/s.
A few ways to use RTX IR
We're well aware that there are as many different networks as there are network administrators, so we can't cover every possible situation. But for networking here's all you really need to know: RTX IR needs an IP address.
If the RTX IR is "on the same network" as the connecting computer, they can transfer data. Through various networking protocols and tricks, this means the RTX IR can be almost anywhere in your network, building, or planet.
Connected to one computer (which could then share)
The easiest way to guarantee the fastest possible connection to a target computer is to set up a miniature network between the target computer and RTX IR (done by adding a new, inexpensive ethernet host card to the target computer).
This has the added benefit of being highly secure. This computer then share the volume over its bigger network via a sharing protocol (such as samba) allowing many simultaneous connections, limited mainly by the speed of the network. In many cases, this is the recommended usage model.
Connected to one of many computers on a network
If you have one or more users on a network who need to share the volume (but not at the same time), you can simply put RTX IR on your network switch.
On the plus side, this is very easy to set up. However, you'll want to use the 1st scenario model if you plan on sharing it to the entire network.
Connected to one remote computer

There are several ways to accomplish this. A public IP address, port forwarding, or a VPN could all allow a remote connection. If planning this type of connection, please remember to properly consider network security.
What else you'll need
To connect to an iSCSI device, you'll need to launch an iSCSI initiator.
iSCSI initiators are available for free for Windows computers:
An iSCSI initiator for Macintosh is available from Atto for $195, and GlobalSAN (free) is also available.
iSCSI initiator are available free for Linux computers:
