WiebeTech announces G5Jam+™: Mount up to 10 Drives
with Expansion system for Apple's G5 Computer

WICHITA, KS - Jan 11, 2005 - WiebeTech announces G5Jam+, which allows users to
mount up to a total of 10 drives to the G5 computer. It supports six internal SATA
drives and up to 4 external SATA drives. It's the big brother to the original G5JamTM
that supports four internal SATA drives for the G5.
"G5Jam+ provides a far higher level of storage transfer performance for G5 owners,"
said James Wiebe, CEO of WiebeTech LLC. "Users want to be able to mount large
numbers of drives within their G5. They also want great performance out of them, so
that the G5 may be used for High Definition video editing or as an inexpensive,
extraordinarily high performance serve. G5Jam+ fills this need."
Drives may be RAIDed using Apple's built in utility, for higher performance (using
RAID 0 striping) or higher reliability (using RAID 1 mirroring). Resulting performance
exceeds 500MB/sec and easily supports uncompressed 1080i 10bit editing under Final
Cut Pro.
G5Jam+ ships with a replacement air baffle supporting up to four additional SATA
drives, for a total of six drives inside the system. The controller card also features
four more external SATA ports, allowing a total of 8 additional SATA drives to be
mounted to the G5.
Features
- Replacement G5 Air Baffle. This improved baffle allows mounting of four
additional drives in the G5. It is constructed from mirror aluminum. It also serves as
an extraordinary heat sink for the additional internal drives, which are mounted to the
new air baffle.
- Additional Storage Capacity. G5Jam+ allows up to 2.4 Terabytes of storage to be
mounted inside the G5 and 1.6 Terabytes outside G5, for a total of 4 Terabytes.
- Supports OS X Soft Raid. We have measured performance in excess of 500MB/
sec. Drives may also be configured individually or in groups of RAIDs.
- Supports HD Editing. Has been tested with 1080i 10bit under Final Cut Pro in a
variety of demanding edits. (Will not support 1080i across the entire disk map Š
performance does degrade as written cylinder count increases.)
- Includes SATA Adapter Card. May be installed in any open PCI slot within the G5.
Supports up to 4 additional internal and 4 external SATA drives.
- Uses Minimal Internal Space. G5Jam+ occupies space which normally supports full
length PCI cards in slots 1, 2 and 3. Therefore, PCI Slots 1, 2 and 3 are restricted to
short length cards. Slot 4 may be a full length card.
