Just Say No To Network Attached Storage (NAS)!|
Let's face it - Networked or "shared" storage is a great feature but most NAS devices are just too slow for many applications. 3MB/s for a NAS device is common and 10MB/s is considered fast. Direct Attached Storage (DAS) performs much faster while still having the ability to be "shared". The RTX400-QR can transfer data to your computer at speeds exceeding 100MB/s. That's 10X faster than "fast" NAS devices.
Want it on a network? No Problem.
A computer connected to a storage device (such as the RTX400) can share data over a network. Whoever is directly connected to the device will see the highest data transfer rates - while other users on the network will have access to the volume as fast as your network will allow.
The figure on the right is a network diagram. Each circle represents a computer, connected in the center by a switch. This is a common network setup. The RTX is connected to one computer on the network, but the data can be shared with simple configuration through Mac OS X or Windows.
